Below are a series of articles describing the experience of students participating in SMART programs in the classroom.
Hands-On Science in SMART
“Have you ever wondered what is in a FOSS kit? I was lucky enough to experience FOSS first-hand when I joined the LGUSD Science Specialist, Mary Fran Archer, visiting 2nd and 5th grade science classes.”
The Music in SMART
“Fisher Middle School was the first middle school ever to have its choir perform the national anthem at a Stanford women’s basketball game, but their music education and talent started in Kindergarten! I discovered just how uninformed I was about the excellent music programs offered by LGUSD after chatting with music teachers Ana Hartwick and Jenny Anderson, and observing a 3rd grade class and rehearsal.”
The Art in SMART
“It has always fascinated me how two people can look at the same thing and interpret it very differently and experience completely different emotions. So, I was looking forward to joining the Art Docents in a the classroom as they explored art theory and artwork in detail. I was not disappointed – the students were actively engaged and visibly excited to learn.”
Technology in SMART
“Technology is an integral part of our world. In today’s classroom, technology is used for more than just word processing and research. Technology enables faster and differentiated learning, and supports 21st Century Learning, where students learn critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and life and career skills.”
